Our Management Team
Across the past 18 years, 3 passions have driven Dan: shaping collaborative teams, evolving services businesses, and enabling innovation in education. These passions fuelled varied roles from a start-up developing the CODiE award-winning EQUELLA software to global educational powerhouses Blackboard and Pearson; from small teams to leading a team of 65 delivering an annual product and service portfolio of $55 million. On a personal level, as a dual American-Australian citizen, he struggles daily with the conflict between raising his two children on peanut butter & jelly sandwiches, or vegemite.
For the last thirteen years, Al has engaged with senior leaders across all education sectors to assist them in defining suitable educational technology solutions to meet their varying needs. With a career spanning marketing, business development, and account management, Al led the team that established the EQUELLA brand and was heavily involved in its entry into the global education market, through to its acquisition by Pearson. Al has fostered strong relationships with customers across Asia Pacific. Al relies on the support of his wife and two children to ease the pain of being a die-hard St. Kilda Saints supporter.
Head of Technical Services
Carl has served as a Senior Technical Consultant working with the EQUELLA platform for the past nine years. As the Hosting Manager, he delivers EQUELLA as a cloud-based, highly-available high-performance platform for Australian and New Zealand clients. Carl’s background includes UNIX systems administration, coding in various languages and impressive cooking skills in the French and Chinese traditions. Carl is also known to enjoy a nice bottle of wine on occasion, especially when it comes from Dan’s wedding.
Head of Support
For over a decade, Tim has provided application support and delivered digital services on an international scale in the education sector. He established a follow-the-sun support model and managed teams spanning three continents. Services ranged from LMS support to managing a portfolio of 44 hosted clients utilising the EQUELLA content management system and managing data synchronisation services between sites in the United Kingdom, China and Malaysia. The most important metric in the Support and Services world is customer satisfaction - the cornerstone of Tim’s management style. Away from work, Tim is a Whisky enthusiast and also enjoys spending time on the Tasmanian East Coast.
Originally from New Zealand, Karen possesses over 20 years experience in the accounting arena in both New Zealand and Australia. Karen has worked with a wide range of clients in multiple industries with companies of all shapes and sizes. For the last five years, Karen has expertly handled all aspects of the EQUELLA finances. She successfully managed the Hobart office and with her eagle eye for detail, was relied upon for accuracy, her strong accounting skills and for pulling reluctant rabbits out of hats. When Karen isn't crunching numbers she will be at the theatre, or enjoying coffee with friends, or training for the Point to Pinnacle.
Head of Business
In the past 20 years Mike's passion has been delivering excellent customer service, building long term relationships and employing a cohesive team-based approach to get results for his clients. As part of The Learning Edge and Pearson, Mike has established strong business partnerships with his clients and moving forward he is looking forward to the opportunities ahead. On a personal note Mike's other passion is to continue playing golf on a single figure handicap for as long as he can and hopes to one day play in a senior's tournament.
